ROSSBURG, OH (April 4) — Frigid and unseasonable weather conditions continue to haunt Eldora Speedway in their quest to get the 2007 campaign underway on the one-half mile clay oval. With temperatures forecasted to be no higher than the mid-30’s on Saturday afternoon (April 7), and the lows dipping to the 20’s at nighttime, the planned April 7 season opening date has been reformatted. Replacing the planned race meet will be an optional open practice session

Offers Eldora’s general manager Larry Kemp, “when the temperatures get that low, it’s just not good. Not good for the engines, not good for the track surface with possible freezing and certainly not good for the fans sitting in the stands. However, we know everyone is anxious to get going and rather than shutting the doors completely, we are opting for this practice session concept”.

The practice session will be open to any class of car that is included within the 2007 Eldora Speedway schedule and will run from 2:00 – 5:00, with the gates opening at 1:00. A nominal pit fee will be charged; however the main grandstands will be open at no charge.

This move will allow teams, who so choose, to get dialed into the new surface laid down during the off-season months. For the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds and Advance Auto Parts Stock Car drivers, it will give them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the use of the 2007 mandated RACEceiver one-way radio system.

Eldora’s opening date for actual competition will now fall the following weekend (April 13 & 14), when the traveling World of Outlaw (WoO) Sprint Series moves in for two complete race programs. Joining the winged Sprint Cars on Friday night will be the UMP Modifieds, with the Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars completing Saturday’s doubleheader.
